My initial understanding on learning environment is that this is about the physical layout and furniture of the classroom. Dr Quek in her introduction for the course had introduced us to the psycho-social dimension of learning environment. This has opened my eyes to a different understanding of how the person, his background, and social dynamics affects learning environment and vice versa. This inter-relationship of various components will affect the effectiveness of learning.
In addition, the management profile survey that we have done in class also provides opportunity for more indepth awareness of my teaching profile. My team's impression of "Commanding" profile as "rigid". This is how I used to prepare for my lessons. I am one who will go through lesson plan, think through what activities I want to engage the students and get irritated if the lesson did not go according to plan. Now that I am more aware of my tendency, I will put more effort in addressing the trainees' needs and not fixated in completing the planned lesson. The strategy is to use more facilitating skills and not just one-direction teaching.
